We are Justin, Casey, Clint, and Charles of CST, 7th period. We picked the city Los Angeles and its wonderful neighborhood of Compton.
Compton may be known for it's violent crime, but its poverty doesn't come short. Here is a quick overview of poverty in Compton.
Twenty-percent of Compton residents live in poverty. Twelve-percent are unemployed. The 4 main causes of poverty are falling wages, increased cost of living, reduced government aid, physical and mental health issues. In general, there are four main types of environemnts: the physical and built environment, the social environment, the economic environment, and the service environment. We'll tell you details of this in our project. Undoubtedly, a main issue in Compton is the crime; the city's crime rate is twice the national average. Luckily, there are many services that provide charity and justice to the residents. What's the difference between charity and justice? Charity is the direct social services that help individuals meet their present needs. Justice is the structure/social change that strive to correct long term problems in communities.
